Heidi Klum Reveals Michael Kors Rejected Her at Casting Call in the ’90s

As Heidi Klum says on "Project Runway," when it comes to fashion, one day you're in and the next day you're out. And when the German supermodel was just starting out in the business at age 20, she was out — at least to Michael Kors. The two "Project Runway" personalities are best buds now, but Klum reveals that was not always the case in a new interview with Allure, for which she posed nude. "I never did fashion shows — not in Paris or Berlin or even in New York City … no one would book me," she tells the magazine. Klum, now 38, goes on to recall the time she went on a casting call for Kors. After the fashion designer saw her in one of his creations, he told her tersely, "Thanks, but no thanks."

Heidi Klum's Style Timeline

But it wasn't just Kors who didn't think Klum was right for his clothes. "I was too curvy and too busty and a little too short," she says of her early days as a model before she went on to become one of Victoria's Secret's most-famous Angels. "And I was a little bit self-conscious about it. But I was by no means heavy, I just—well, you have hips and boobs, and that's it. Haute couture, you don't really see girls with big boobs. And I always wanted first to be a model. So I had to say, 'OK, you're going to find other things to do in this industry, or it's maybe not my industry.'"

In addition to her success in modeling, Klum had also struck gold in the love department — or so it seemed. She met singer Seal when she was pregnant with her daughter Leni, now 7, and the two married in 2005 and welcomed three children of their own together. There seemed to be no greater love story in Hollywood, especially since they renewed their vows with a big party every year on their anniversary. But in January, the two shocked the world with the announcement of their separation. "It's hard, just like for other couples," Klum tells Allure. Still, despite the heartache, she adds, "You know, I wouldn't change anything. If I had to go back in time and say, 'I should have changed this or that ...' No. I don't resent anything that ever happened. Things just turn out the way they turn out ... I'm still in the eye of the storm now, and it's all a little bit crazy. But sometimes you have to be apart in order to figure it out."

Now that she's back on the singles market, don't expect Klum to try to spruce herself up with plastic surgery. She swears she's never had anything done, not even Botox — but never say never. "Ask me again when I'm 65," she jokes. "I'm proud to be able to say, in this day and age, I haven't done anything. Everyone has a view of what's pretty and what's not pretty, and [surgery] just doesn't look pretty to me. Especially when I see it on really young girls. I don't want to name names, but it's like, Wow, I remember you five years ago, looking to me so beautiful, and now it's like ... who is this person? And I know girls half my age who do it. What are they gonna do at 40 or 50, when the s-h-i-t really hits the fan?"
